Moab is a small town in
southern Utah that is surrounded by national and state parks, including
Canyonlands and
Arches. If you choose to visit
either or both, your tour will take you through Moab, where you will spend the
night.
Apart from the glorious
scenery, the town is an outdoor Mecca. The Slick Rock trail is possibly
the world's most well known mountain bike trail, with bikers coming from all
around the world to experience the unique conditions.
With the Colorado River
flowing through Moab, the town is also a hotbed of rafting activity.
Experienced guides will take you down the river as you cruise down towards the
Grand Canyon. The
nearby cliffs and peaks provide great climbing action, and the surrounding
desert is a playground for four wheel drive and off-road vehicle enthusiasts.
The name Moab is a
Biblical name for a land just short of the Promised Land. The
Moabites were historically regarded as the perpetual enemy of the Israelites,
"God's Chosen People." Physically, the region was a green, verdant
valley in the middle of a desert. Because of those similarities, the
little town was dubbed Moab by Mormon settlers in the 1800's.
