Tour Details
You'll
travel to the Grand Canyon in a luxury motor coach, with videos and movies
to keep you entertained on the way.
The first stop is at Hoover
Dam, shortly after the bus has crossed over the towering dam wall from
Nevada into Arizona. There is a brief, but spectacular, photo
opportunity of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and the Colorado River far below.
As we continue on, you will see the fortification hill that was built to
protect the dam wall during World War Two.
On the way you'll learn
about the history of the Grand Canyon, the native American tribes, and the
early settlers.
The
next stop is at Kingman, Arizona, where you'll have the opportunity to
stretch your legs and grab a quick bite to eat. From Kingman you'll
travel to Williams, Arizona. Williams is a quaint little western
town, home to, amongst other things, the Grand Canyon Railway. In
addition to enjoying the buffet lunch at Max and Thelma's Restaurant
(included in the tour price), you will have time to shop for souvenirs and
browse the railway museum and depot.
After lunch, it's time for
the main event, as we travel the 50 miles north to the South Rim of the
Grand Canyon! Your first destination is the new state-of-the-art
Visitor Center, followed by stops at Mather Point (the deepest part of the
canyon), Yavapai Point (the widest part of the canyon), and Bright Angel
Point, regarded by many as the most panoramic.
There
is also additional time to browse Bright Angel Lodge and its various gift
shops, restaurants and museum, as well as the surrounding buildings of
historical significance, particularly those designed by Mary Colter, who
designed so many of the great National Parks buildings of the early 20th
Century. It is only a short walk to Hopi House, the Indian Art
Museum and gift shop.
Unfortunately it is now time
to leave the Grand Canyon and return to Las Vegas. On the way back
there is once again a short stop in Kingman, to stretch your legs, before
you once again drive back across the Hoover Dam, through Boulder City,
arriving in Las Vegas at about 8.45 p.m.
